The Dominican Republic was our first international vacation after having our baby, Sunny. Now that we had three kids under the age of 5, we had to raise our expectations of the accommodations we choose for our family surf trips. The El Encuentro Surf Lodge is the perfect place to stay for a number of reasons. The room we stayed in was spacious. It was the size of an apartment and the staff gave us a crib for our 2 month old. There was a simple kitchen, which enabled us to make our own meals. There is a pool, a delicious breakfast is included, and nice and private front porch is a great place to relax as well. There is an outdoor yoga studio. One of our favorite aspects of the surf lodge is that it makes you feel like you’re in the Caribbean. That type of authenticity is important to us. The location relative to Playa Encuentro is the main reason we stayed there. With three kids, we needed something simple and convenient. Not only was it a beautiful room, but we were able to walk to the beach with our three kids and four surfboards every day with ease. We woke up every morning and checked the waves within 5 minutes of leaving the front door.
The surf lodge is very forward thinking as well. They don’t use single use plastics on their grounds. They also use solar panels for their electricity. They use cage-free eggs as well. These are all causes that we are behind as a family of environmentally conscious surfers.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. We had a great time getting to know them. They were very helpful helping us find taxis, restaurants and points of diversion. Highly recommend!
