Camping in Malibu

Malibu First Point

One of our yearly traditions is camping in or around Malibu. We usually reserve a spot at Leo Carillo campgrounds, which is right by beautiful coastline, good waves and is nice and quiet. To reserve a spot in the Summer, you need to book online at least 6 months prior. It’s really popular!

Malibu is a great place to stay, especially if you surf. It is hands down (in our opinion) the coolest city in LA, has roughly 30 miles of coastline and is isolated by canyons, which help to give it a small town feel. Malibu point is one of the most incredible waves in the USA when it is working. On small days, it is great to take the kids out or take your longboard out. The campgrounds are also close to restaurants and grocery stores, so eating is easy and if you forget or need something, you have ample access to get it.

El Matador State Beach is another must see destination in Malibu. This gorgeous beach is full of rock arches and boulders that are picture perfect. It’s a hidden gem down a cliff of stairs and worth the 5-10 min. hike to get down there!
